Ancient Arts worked with a mill in South Africa to salvage fibre used to prime the mill machines and blend it to create this fantastic multi-purpose 4 ply yarn. It is a blend of 49% wool, 34% mohair, 11% nylon, 4% acrylic & 2% silk and hand dyed in Canada. With a generous 437 yards per 100g skein it is perfect for lace work and of course socks!

The popular Tosh Merino Light is available as 52 yard mini skeins, called Unicorn Tails.  These little twists are perfect for granny squares, hexipuffs or accents and come in 30 of your favourite Madelinetosh shades. I couldn’t wait to cast on for Solaris, by Melanie Berg.  We also carry Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn in mini skeins and these are perfect for contrasting heels and toes on socks.

Swoon Maine by Carrie Bostick Hoge is a beautiful collection of knitwear photographed with the back drop of the beaches and forests of Maine. There are 14 inspiring patterns by Carrie and other well known designers, including adult and children’s sweaters and accessories.  

Softyak DK is a new Rowan yarn for Spring/Summer 2016. It is a blend of yak, cotton and nylon in a chain structure DK weight. It is very soft, with a slight sheen but durable and machine washable. A perfects trans seasonal yarn.

The exquisite colours of Hedgehog Fires yarn have to be seen to be believed!  The intense and unique colourways by this artisan company in Co. Cork, Ireland have been popularized by Stephen West who uses them in some of his outlandish mystery KAL shawls. We just received a shipment of their most popular yarn , their 90% merino, 10% nylon Sock yarn, which is spun exclusively for them. We also received a small amount of their Mernio/Slik Lace to try out – perfect for a delicate lace shawl – perhaps with beads?  

Get into the Christmas spirit, by knitting one or many of these cute miniature mittens. They are just 4 1/2″ tall and knit with fingering weight yarn. In our “Basics of Felting” class you can learn all the fundamental skills to produce amazing works of felted art. All the materials are provided in this 2 part class starting Nov 7. For those who are enthusiastic this may be followed by our “Painting with Wool” class, or this 1 session class can be taken on its own.

There is also an adult version, “Imogen Tee” and the “Immie Baby Blanket” with the same gorgeous lace pattern.

Today we were organizing our new shipment of Lett-Lopi or Lopi Lite, a worsted weight version of the well known Icelandic wool. This wool is unique in its composition as it consists of two types of fibers:  inner fibers which are fine, soft and highly insulating and outer fibers which are long, glossy and water repellent. Together these fibers create a wool that is lightweight, water-repellent and breathable.
