Modern Daily Knitting Field Guides
By Helen Danforth | | 0 comments
MDK Field Guides are little books that explore the big world of knitting. Ann Shayne and Kay Gardiner, previously of Mason-Dixon Knitting fame, have rebranded as Modern Daily Knitting (MDK). They produce a series of pocket-sized books each focused on a particular theme, technique or designer. We are pleased to offer some of the most recent editions, including Field Guide No. 15: Open, which features five patterns from designer Jeanette Sloan. Open refers to openwork, the eyelets and negative spaces of lace knitting. Sloan’s designs for Field Guide No. 15 are an invitation to lace knitting for knitters of all levels,...
Myak Tibetan Yarn
By Helen Danforth | | 0 comments
We have found another beautiful line of yarn to add to our curated collection! Myak yarns are made from the soft undercoat of baby yaks and wool of an ancient breed of Tibetan sheep grazing on the high altitude pastures of the Tibetan Plateau. Myak work with the nomadic herders of the Tibetan Plateau and have learned to appreciate their traditions and respect their way of life and work. This cooperative contributes towards the future of the nomadic population, which is one of the most ancient in the world. The collection of the baby yak fibers is done through combing...

By Helen Danforth | | 0 comments
Dapple is Brooklyn Tweed's first wool and cotton blend. Pure organic cotton from Texas and 20.7-micron Merino wool from Colorado combine in a soft woolen-spun yarn appropriate for any season. The unique nature of the spinning and dyeing process creates subtle variations of colour and texture throughout each lot for dappled, tonal colour effects. You can create rich, monochromatic fades using the range of saturations or choose an allover blend of tones by arranging the skeins randomly.

Colourwork Mittens
By Helen Danforth | | 0 comments
It's mitten season and I especially love knitting cozy Selbu colourwork mittens. Traditional Norwegian Selbu mittens have a two-coloured star pattern or Selbu Rose, of which there are now hundreds of variations. Speedy Selbu Mittens by Skeindeer Knits, are an ideal pattern for those new to colourwork mittens, as they are knit with heavier yarn. Then progress to fingering weight yarn (eg Rauma Finull/PT2, Jamieson & Smith 2 ply Jumper Wt) to knit a mitten such as Anne's Flower by Wenche Roald. If you have some experience with colour work knitting but have never tried colourwork mittens, we have a class...
